Hello, I'm Sierra Fine, the hands behind every piece at Flying G Leather Co. LLC. My journey into leatherworking started differently than most. When I was in college, it was hard to make ends meet. In an entrepreneurship class I was taking, we were asked to create a "business" from scratch. The point of this project was to learn how to do market research and use that information to generate a business plan and project future goals. Luckily, I was able to use this "fake" business plan and turn it into a real one.
Growing up, I was always on a horse. Riding after school or on the weekends, you name it. Horse shows, barrel races, rodeos, and trail rides are something I will always remember doing as a kid. I was always drawn to the aesthetics of horses and durability of leather. I can only imagine this came from my mother, who owns Graham Equine. A leatherworker and a horse-lover, just like me.
After years of working in retail, I realized that what I truly wanted was to create something tangible, something lasting that reflected my passion for this lifestyle. I was able to take scraps from my mom's shop with a hand-me-down tool set from a family friend. From here I was able to start creating projects in my college apartment, that eventually took over into a full-time career of leatherworking once I graduated with my Bachelor's degree in organizational management and haven't looked back since.
What started as a little school project and hobby quickly become a full-time endeavor. I've spent countless hours honing in my craft, learning traditional leather working techniques while also experimenting with modern, bold designs. My creations are a blend of old-style craftsmanship and contemporary western flair, designed for those are appreciate the beauty and function of leather.
Whether it's a custom belt, a pair of earrings, or a unique piece of wearable art, I take pride in crafting items that not only look beautiful but are built to last. For me, leatherwork is more than a trade -- it's a craft rooted in history and imbued with a personal touch. Each piece is designed with care, combining my love for the West with a dedication to detail and quality.
When I'm not in the workshop, you'll find me outside with my horses, exploring with my three mini aussies, or following around my husband to rodeos all over the place. Always looking for new inspiration to bring back to my workbench. The landscapes, the culture, and the people of this lifestyle inspire every piece I create. I also enjoy photography and I believe this builds onto my inspiration. My current passion is becoming a soon-to-be-mama to our little boy, Mack, and I am so excited to introduce him to this lifestyle and craft.
Each item I make is handcrafted with care, from the initial sketch to the final product. I believe in creating pieces that not only look good but feel good and stand the test of time. Whether you're a working cowboy, a western enthusiast, western fashion lover, or someone who just appreciations a well-made piece, I'm proud to offer you the leather goods that embody the strength and beauty of the American West.
Thank you for supporting small, handmade businesses, like mine, and being apart of this journey. (I know some of you have been here since the very beginning!).
